| Dear All,
As many of you may already know that on Monday, May 12, at 2.28 p.m. Beijing time, a major earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, jolted southwestern China 's Sichuan Province . Several lower-scale earthquakes and aftershocks followed in the same area. The quake destroyed many buildings in the area, as well as infrastructure like communication towers.
According to the latest reports, more than 20,000 people have died and many more have been injured or are missing. Many schools and houses were destroyed, including one that had at least 1000 students in it. As authorities reach more remote areas, these numbers are expected to rise.
WCCA (Western Connecticut Chinese Association), HuaXia Chinese School and WCSU Chinese student & Scholar association are now organizing a donation for this earthquake; the donating period will start today May 15th until May 25th. The donation will goes to Red Cross China directly and will be made on behave of all Western Connecticut community. We'll have an 'Earthquake fund committee' to monitor the process, after the money goes to the Red Cross; the final receipt will posted on both WCCA and HuaXia Chinese School website.
We also like to ask all other association in our community, please forward this information out to everyone that you know and may interest to give love and help to those who are suffering in this earthquake. We highly appreciate your support and help.
There are two ways you can make the donation:
- Cash donation can be made at WCSU (west side campus) this Saturday May 17th, between 9:15 am to 12:45 pm.
Location: Two main entrances of classroom building.
Time: May 17th, Saturday 9:15 am to 12:45 pm.
We need to record the donor and the amount. Receipt will provide to all the donation (Also accept checks)

At this moment, we are not really sure whether the donation would be tax deductible or not. We will check with the IRS rules to find it out.
